44 THE TORTOISE

1. Breathing: tan tien should do the breathing. Actually, the diaphragm moves the air in and out, thereby allowing the lungs and the heart to rest. In that way the breath becomes longer, thinner, continuous, and quiet. Tortoises live very long because they breathe this way. When you put a mirror before their nose, you won't find evidence of breathing. That's because they breathe slow, long, etc.
